Speech and Language Pathologist

Position Overview

The Speech and Language Pathologist provides high-quality, evidence-based assessment, intervention, and consultation services across ISB, with a primary focus on supporting students in Secondary (middle school and high school) and the Life Centered Education (LCE) program. The SLP works collaboratively with students, families, teachers, administrators, and other specialists to support communication, participation, independence, well-being, and meaningful learning.

The SLP will provide specialized support for students with communication and learning needs, with an emphasis on functional communication, social pragmatics, and the application of skills across classroom, school, and community environments.

Core Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive speech and language screenings, assessments, and evidence-based intervention using formal and informal measures.

• Develop, implement, and monitor individualized treatment plans and ILPs based on student strengths, needs, and goals. 

• Provide individual and small-group speech and language therapy, including within the classroom, in community spaces, and in LCE environments, as appropriate.

• Work closely with the LCE Coordinator, LCE teachers, families, and other specialists to provide integrated support for students with intensive communication needs, leading classes such as wellbeing and learning needs as best fits. 

• Support families in a specific understanding of their child’s speech goals as well as how 

• to train on the use of different communication tools, strategies, or devices (such as AAC), support functional communication, independence, participation, and the generalization of communication skills across classrooms, the middle and high school, and community settings.

• Collect, analyze, and interpret data to monitor student progress, evaluate services, and inform recommendations and future programming.

• Conduct classroom observations and provide practical communication strategies, accommodations, and supports across settings.

• Collaborate with teachers, families, administrators, and multidisciplinary teams to support student learning, communication, participation, and well-being.

• Provide consultation, coaching, and professional learning for teachers, families, and school personnel to build capacity and support student communication.

• Participate in Student Support Team, grade-level, LCE, transition, and other relevant meetings.

• Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential student records and documentation.

• Contribute to admissions processes, including assessment, consultation, and recommendations when appropriate.

• Collaborate with external therapists, agencies, and service providers to promote continuity of support when needed.

• Engage in professional reflection, peer collaboration, supervision, and continuing professional development.

• Contribute to innovative practices, program development, and broader ISB Student Services initiatives.

Required Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology/Communication Disorders and appropriate professional credentials (e.g., CCC-SLP and/or applicable license)

• Experience assessing and treating speech, language, fluency, voice, cognitive-communication, and social communication needs

• Experience with PEERS or a similar type of social communication research-based program

• Experience working with children in a school or pediatric setting; familiarity with MTSS/RTI preferred

• Experience supporting students with a range of communication needs, including students who use Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) systems and devices, oral motor plans, and be able to support parents and community understanding

• Strong knowledge of evidence-based practices and current research
