About this role

ISB seeks an experienced High School English/Social Studies Teacher who is passionate about creating engaging, inquiry-driven learning experiences for students.

The ideal candidate will have strong subject knowledge in English and Social Studies and the ability to design meaningful learning experiences that develop students' communication, critical thinking, inquiry, research, and disciplinary thinking skills. The successful candidate will be student-centered, collaborative, adaptable, and committed to using current and research-supported pedagogical practices.

The candidate will contribute to a Professional Learning Community (PLC), work collaboratively with colleagues, and use student evidence and data to inform instructional decisions. Experience teaching IB and/or AP courses is valued. Experience with inquiry-based approaches and, for Social Studies, the C3 Framework is preferred.

This position may also provide opportunities to contribute to innovative programming and authentic learning experiences that connect students with mentors, real-world contexts, and opportunities to apply their learning beyond the classroom.

Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities

  • Teach assigned High School English/Social Studies courses.

  • Develop students' disciplinary thinking, critical inquiry, research, analysis, problem-solving, and communication skills.

  • Utilize varied assessments and student data to monitor progress, adapt instruction, and provide timely, actionable feedback.

  • Integrate appropriate technology and contemporary resources to enhance learning and connect classroom concepts with real-world contexts.

  • Partner with counselors, administrators, and parents to support students' academic achievement and social-emotional well-being.

  • Chaperone local/international trips, including DELVE experiential learning week, and fulfill assigned supervision duties.

  • Maintain professional obligations, meeting deadlines, and honoring schedules.

  • Strictly uphold ISB standards of integrity, respect, and care.

  • Serves as an Advisor in the High School Advisory Program.

  • Collaborate as an effective  member of high school teams (PLC, Department, Grade Level, etc.) 

  • Positively contribute to school culture through the support and sponsorship of a student club or non-stipended extracurricular activity. 

  • Participates in professional development training and attends required presentations.

  • Meets professional obligations through efficient work habits such as meeting deadlines, honoring schedules, and working with colleagues.

  • Ensures student growth and achievement is continuous and appropriate for age group, subject area, and /or program classification.

  • Provides a positive and safe environment in which students are encouraged to actively engage in the learning process.

  • Strictly uphold ISB expectations for child safeguarding and student well-being.

  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.

Requirements

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • A valid teaching license or certification in a related field.

  • At least three years of relevant and recent High School teaching experience.

  • Experience with, and a belief in, an inquiry approach to teaching and learning.

  • Experience teaching English Language Learners.

  • Experience using data to inform instruction through a Professional Learning Community (PLC).

  • Strong subject knowledge and teaching experience in English and/or Social Studies.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience teaching IB and/or AP courses.

  • Experience teaching a standards-based curriculum, such as the Common Core Standards for English or the C3 Framework for Social Studies.

  • Experience teaching English and/or Social Studies within an international school setting.

  • Experience developing interdisciplinary learning opportunities.

Compensation

ISB provides a highly competitive compensation and benefits package that is commensurate with the candidate’s experience and aligned with global international school standards. The initial contract is a two year commitment.
