About this role

American School of Puerto Vallarta (ASPV)

Our mission: We strive to be a multicultural learning community that nurtures the values and abilities which inspire in each of us the confidence to further our education, pursue our dreams, and serve as compassionate, responsible citizens.

About the Role

ASPV seeks a dedicated, experienced elementary teacher to join our multicultural learning community and nurture young learners’ love of language, reading, and writing. Guided by a growth mindset, you will build students’ confidence as readers, writers, speakers, and listeners, and lay the foundation they need to further their education and pursue their dreams.

Our teachers are exceptional educators who create stimulating, enriching learning experiences for a diverse, international student population. They are flexible, creative, and deeply knowledgeable in their field. They also care about the personal, social, and emotional growth of every child, and they strive to make a lasting, positive impact. ASPV teachers know and embrace the school’s mission and guiding principles, and they bring them to life in the classroom every day.

This is a full-time position in our elementary school, where you will teach in English to students across one or two grade levels. Our curriculum is aligned to the Common Core Standards for English Language Arts and math. Many of our students are growing up in multilingual or Spanish-speaking homes, so you will bring skill and warmth to supporting English language development alongside literacy growth. Using Universal Design for Learning (UDL) practices, you will design flexible, accessible instruction that gives every child multiple ways to engage with, understand, and demonstrate their learning. We encourage the application of concepts through inquiry, storytelling, and project-based learning.

Key Responsibilities

As a member of the ASPV faculty, you will:

  1. Champion our mission. Apply the school’s mission and guiding principles to enhance learning and deliver a high-quality education.

  2. Build strong foundations. Plan and teach engaging lessons in mathematics, reading, writing, speaking, listening, phonics, vocabulary, and comprehension aligned to Common Core standards.

  3. Design for every learner. Apply Universal Design for Learning principles by providing multiple means of engagement, representation, and expression. Use a variety of strategies, including inquiry, collaboration, and project-based learning, suited to students’ maturity, interests, and individual needs.

  4. Support English language development. Welcome and support students at varying levels of English proficiency in a multicultural classroom.

  5. Build confidence and character. Create experiences that develop responsibility, vision, leadership, cooperation, resilience and compassion, so students grow into compassionate, responsible citizens.

  6. Connect learning to the world. Use quality literature, instructional media, and community resources to deepen understanding and make language learning meaningful.

  7. Assess and respond. Check regularly for student understanding, using formative and benchmark assessments to guide instruction.

  8. Partner with families. Communicate regularly and constructively with parents and guardians about student progress.

  9. Contribute beyond the classroom. Take part in, and provide leadership for, extracurricular and service-learning activities.

  10. Keep growing. Participate in school-sponsored professional development.

  11. Demonstrate professionalism. Follow school policies and procedures, and meet administrative requirements accurately and on time.
